Council gives homestead exemption initial nod

The first reading for ordinance No. 944 calling for a homestead exemption, was heard for the first time Tuesday night by the Southlake City Council. The item has to go before council a second time and a public hearing set to take place Sept. 16, before it becomes a new ordinance.

Resident Brent Hoy has submitted a special request. He has asked councilors to approve the use of a neighborhood electric vehicle, also known as a golf cart, on city streets with posted speed limits of 35 mph.
Early voting begins for Italy ISD election

ITALY — The Italy ISD board of trustees is asking voters in the district to approve a $0.13 tax rate increase. The increase will add an additional $481,500 to the budget for the 2008-2009 school year and each year thereafter until the state Legislature changes current law.
